TPI Trackwork and Bridges Alliance, Western Australia
TPI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group, is constructing a 260km open third party access railway line linking their iron ore mine facilities at Cloud Break with the port operations at Port Hedland. Choosing to negotiate a major alliance with Laing O'Rourke to develop and deliver all track and bridge infrastructure, FMG demand adherence to budget, quality standards and program in the delivery of their railway.
FEATURES:
The project's scope of work is to construct a total of 285kms of concrete sleepered, ballasted heavy haul railway including 30 turnouts as well as eight rail bridges along the alignment. The completed track will be carrying trains which will weigh about 30,000 tonnes and be about 2.5kms long.
Using a SUM1000 automated tracklayer, the track will be laid at approximately 2kms per day at a rate of 400m/hr.
BENEFITS:
Recognising the benefits of Laing O'Rourke's experience in constructing heavy haul railways in remote regions with extreme climatic conditions, TPI's objectives to receive an ontime, to cost and effectively engineered railway, operationally capable of satisfying the annual shipping targets, will be achieved.
