The Liverpool Parramatta Transitway was the first of seven bus-only transitways to be built as part of the NSW Government strategy, Action for Transport 2010.
The completion of this flagship transitway was the first step to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Western Sydney Metropolis transport network through the provision of 90 kilometres of rapid bus transitways.
FEATURES:
This first stage involved the construction of a 7.8 kilometre two-lane carriageway. Construction took place in four parts, comprising a combination of road works, bus bay construction works and culvert extensions.
The scope of work also included earthworks, stormwater drainage, sub-surface drainage, arch bridges, concrete and asphaltic pavement, footpaths and cycleways, traffic signals, intersection reconstruction, retaining walls, kerbs and gutters, barriers, control of traffic, major services relocation and revegetation.
BENEFITS:
The successful completion of this stage of the Liverpool to Parramatta Transitway delivered a number of benefits to Western Sydney including:
- providing the first bus only Transitway in Sydney
- public transport between two major business centres, Parramatta and Liverpool
- providing state-of-the-art public transport including Intelligent Transport System
- eased traffic congestion in Western Sydney, and
- local employment opportunities.
As an experienced partner, the project team brought to the project an understanding of the environmental, safety and community issues that arise when undertaking construction work on major access roads.
The site team completed the project within the accelerated completion date, and met or exceeded, the RTA standards and requirements.
