New South Wales
As part of the Great Western Highway Upgrade program, the existing two-lane highway was widened to a four-lane divided highway.
FEATURES:
The work included the construction of a bridge structure comprising a 137-metre underpass for the highway.
BENEFITS:
The project team was responsible for the construction only, but put forward an alternate precast super-tee girder design, which enabled them to reduce the construction program by two months and reduce the risk exposure to both the contractor and the client.
The benefits of the highway upgrade included improved traffic flow, reduced travel time within the region and to Sydney, and the preservation of significant local, natural and cultural landmarks.
