The project team was responsible for the refurbishment of the external bus lane affixed to the heritage listed Iron Cove Bridge, located on one of Sydney's major arterial routes. The successful completion of this refurbishment in difficult conditions was viewed by the RTA as an outstanding success, and set new performance benchmarks for infrastructure maintenance in inner CBD areas.
FEATURES:
- innovative alternative redesign allowed construction period to be reduced from a 33-day to a 22-day period
- monorail system established under the bridge and erection of three travelling work platforms to investigate and determine existing condition of the bridge structure, also enabled time and motion studies to be undertaken to plan the programming of the refurbishment
- logistics management skills was key to the successful dismantling of the existing bus lane and subsequent rebuilding of the replacement lane
- cutting and removal of existing deck and railing in sections
- positioning of precast, post-tensioned individual units to form the new deck of the bus lane using a combination of barge mounted and land-based cranes
- provision of safety systems for the workforce and passer-by traffic
