Blackwater Coal Handling Preparation Plant

This project was Australia's largest ever turnkey design and construct coal handling and preparation plant contract,  undertaken in joint venture. The team provided a fully integrated multi-disciplined design with plant capacity to produce 14mtpa, replacing Blackwater Mine's existing North, South and Thermal plants.

FEATURES:

  • receiving plant for Run of Mine coal
  • crushing and screening plant
  • 60,000t raw coal stockpile/blending bed
  • two module 1,800tph wash plant
  • 450,000t product coal stockpile
  • two traveling, slewing, luffing stackers
  • two portal reclaimers
  • train-loading system to load 7,000t trains in 1.4 hours
  • all civil work, structural, piping and mechanical works
  • all high and low voltage electrical works
  • instrumentation works
  • plant control systems and operator controls
  • commissioning of the total project.

BENEFITS:

  • over 30 years coal mine infrastructure works experience, particularly in materials handling facilities
  • application of current coal handling and processing technology reducing overall operating costs
  • improvements in mine efficiency from the new generation plant, contributing significantly to the mine's long-term sustainability
  • construction of the new plant allowed the decommissioning of the South Blackwater rail spur and loop, opening up access to significant reserves.
