This project involved the design and construction of this four-level backpackers' resort which features entertainment areas, retails shops and sporting arenas.
FEATURES:
- large transfer beams to reduce floor depth
- 190mm core-filled load bearing party walls
- mixture of steel and timber truss roofs with steel sheeting
- large curved lattice beams 6m above the floor in the beer hall utilised as a design feature
- voids, open walkways, decks and use of timber, stone, slate and pebbles to enhance the building's natural theme
- concrete paving with pebble banding and a water feature in the foyer, and
- suitable acoustics in the beer hall to accommodate DJs and live music with consideration for the accommodation.
BENEFITS:
- construction was fast-tracked whilst documentation was prepared
- minimal variations due to Barclay Mowlem's responsibility for conceptual and working drawings
- flexibility for the client to make adjustments to the building to maximise the function of the complex.
