The Weipa Integrated Health Service provides the community of Weipa with a single storey hospital and combined health services facility.
The project was a managing contractor role for Queensland Health combining the remote area design requirements and construction experience of Laing O'Rourke and the client design team in Brisbane.
FEATURES:
The health complex includes an emergency department, theatre, medical imaging, acute care, residential aged care, and primary health care services including therapy, dental, counselling, rehabilitation and allied health services.
The new complex allows health services that once provided from a range of buildings in Weipa to be combined onto one site.
An ambulance facility and staff accommodation were also built on site.
The building, which has a floor area of approximately 6000m², is predominately single storey with a first floor plant room above the emergency department.
The entire structure is cyclone rated and designed to provide post disaster relief.
BENEFITS:
Final design of the project allowed the client to benefit from Laing O'Rourke's experience of building in the Far North where buildings are subject to cyclonic events, high humidity and aggressive subterranean attack.
