Amberley, Queensland
RAAF Base Amberley, which has been used for military operations since 1938, will undergo a major redevelopment to enhance the base and produce efficiencies by upgrading and augmenting existing facilities.
The works will involve the construction of a new two-storey headquarters, refurbishment of the 1 Air Transportable Heath Squadron, refurbishment of the Security Policy Building, refurbishment of the Base Command Post and Base Information Systems Centre and a new Booster Pump Station.
FEATURES:
The two-storey headquarters building features offices and open-plan workstations, meeting rooms, secure briefing rooms, classified video conferencing facility and storage for classified information in a secure vault room.
The 1 Air Transportable Health Squadron works include refurbishment and extension of the existing 10-year-old facility, co-location of the medical and dental units into one facility, additional medical consulting rooms, a new physiotherapy wing, hydrotherapy facilities, pharmacy space and expanded patient wards.
This work will be carried out while maintaining a fully operational facility which will require the project team to coordinate and plan with the users.
The Base Command Post and Base Information Systems Centre refurbishment includes the provision of a fully-serviced server room, upgrading of services into Building 343 and the refurbishment of working accommodation layouts within the building.
BENEFITS:
Laing O'Rourke will provide the client with an experienced team who have a solid understanding of the challenges and constraints of working on a live, secure Defence Force base.
In particular, the refurbishment and extension works to the 1 Air Transportable Health Squadron, which form a major part of the works, will be staged to maintain full operations, security and access at all times.
While this part of the works presents a major challenge, the team will draw on their first-hand experience and adopt a program and approach that will reduce noise, vibration, dust and other construction issues.
The team will also be working to a tight, fixed completion date which is interdependent with other concurrent and subsequent works that make up this significant investment for the Department of Defence.
