In-Service Support Facilities, HMAS Cairns, Queensland
The design and construction of the HMAS In Service Support Facilities for the HMAS Cairns involved the demolition, relocation and construction of new buildings on the existing site in Cairns.
FEATURES:
- demolition of existing Explosives and Flammable Goods Store, DEO building, Hydrographics office and classrooms
- relocation of Gymnasium, Dive Bosun Store, Gas Bottle Stores, Boat Store and Transport Stores
- construction of Administration Building, workshop buildings for Royal Australian Navy and Follow On Support Contractor, Explosive Stores, Attractive Goods Store
- installation of extensive computer data networking and security to meet Defence Secman 4 standards, and
- construction of roadways, car park area and associated facilities and services.
BENEFITS:
Despite the difficulties posed by a limited amount of available space on the site, existing services, poor ground conditions and stringent security requirements for specific areas of the building, the project team delivered on schedule and within budget.
