Set to become an iconic and much loved part of the Cairns community, this latest foreshore development delivers to the people and visitors of Cairns a modern, yet casual retail and social venue. The overall project includes three new buildings, with the main building featuring a restaurant that stretches out over the waters of Trinity Inlet.
FEATURES:
The separate buildings are architecturally connected to provide a contemporary look that is tailor-made for this tropical Far North Queensland city. The buildings include:
- Pavilion 1 which houses Cairns Yacht Club facilities, retail tenancies, marina amenities, services enclosures for electrical and mechanical plant, and external covered decks, terraces and seating;
- Pavilion 2 which houses a restaurant, bar, relevant amenities, and external covered decks, terraces and seating; and
- A third structure which houses a boat store and launching facilities.
BENEFITS:
As the lump sum contractor for the works, the client has benefitted from Laing O'Rourke's strong and established local presence in Far North Queensland. The team offered the client its comprehensive knowledge of local construction conditions including subcontractor and labour resourcing in a transient market, materials and finishes selection to meet the extreme tropical conditions, and the specific environmental issues associated with foreshore construction. These were all issues unique to Cairns and fundamental in achieving the timeframe and cost budget allocated for the works.
