Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Project

The Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program (SIHIP) is the largest investment in Indigenous housing undertaken by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments.

Territory Alliance, a partnership between Laing O'Rourke, Sitzler and McMahon, is one of three alliances engaged by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments to deliver the SIHIP housing program across the Northern Territory.

The program involves high levels of collaboration and consultation with the local Indigenous communities to develop designs that are suitable for the people and the region.

Works include new homes and the refurbishment of existing houses in the Northern Territory's northern coastal region.

BENEFITS:

The project involves a significant emphasis on community consultation and engagement, design, and training and development strategies.

An important aspect of the program is providing jobs and skills for local people and a target of 20 per cent Indigenous employment has been set across SIHIP to achieve this aim.

Local workers on the project range from experienced tradespeople to high schools students who are doing school-based apprenticeships. Indigenous professionals, including architects and planners, are also involved.
