Alice Springs to Darwin Railway

As one of Australia's largest infrastructure projects, the Alice Springs to Darwin Railway links the north and south Australia with the rest of the world.

FEATURES:

  • 1,420 km railway, comprising 15 million cubic metres of earthworks, 1,500 culverts, 93 bridges, 2.8 million tonnes of ballast, 2 million sleepers, 8 million sleeper fastenings and 145,000 tonnes of rail
  • responsibility for the Trackwork North team, which undertook 649.5km of tracklaying, initially proceeding southward from Katherine before meeting the Tennant Creek-based trackwork team midway and then relocating back to Katherine to tracklay north to Darwin
  • responsibility for the construction of five major bridges spanning the Katherine, Edith, Adelaide, Cullen and Elizabeth rivers, the refurbishment of the Fergusson River Bridge and three Katherine floodplain bridges
  • production and supply of 2 million sleepers by subsidiary company, Austrak Pty Ltd.
