How would you describe this job?
We’re taking the secondary treated effluent from the Brisbane water treatment plant and through a series of filtration and sterilisation processes, we’re producing purified recycled water. Eventually the recycled water will be pumped from here up to Wivenhoe Dam.
What safety initiatives are in place here?
We’ve got a very good safety record on the job and we’ve put in place a number of initiatives including full PPE – long sleeved shirts and trousers, eyewear and gloves. In addition we have job start cards which everybody reviews and signs off before they start their shift, along with safety reward initiatives. It’s helped raised the bar in terms of safety awareness on the job.
How is Laing O’Rourke different to other construction companies?
Laing O’Rourke being a large diverse company gives you opportunities to work in different aspects of the industry. I come from 30 years’ experience in the building industry so to work in infrastructure is exciting and refreshing for me. Something you may not get from the other construction companies in Australia.
