Tell us how you came to be a Contracts Administrator.
In the UK, I studied a commercial management and quantity surveying degree, and Laing O’Rourke sponsored me throughout my course. I was able to get practical experience, as well as my degree. I was also guaranteed a job once I’d completed my studies.
Do you prefer site or office work?
My experience has been working in construction offices throughout my career. I like that environment because I’m able to be working with the construction team and be part of the decision-making process. When you’re commercially managing, you also like to see what you’re building and then you can pick up on things you might necessarily pick up on if you were remote.
Is Laing O’Rourke your Employer of Choice?
I’ve been with Laing O’Rourke for over 10 years, and what I really like about my job is that it is so different. I’ve been able to move around the UK, move to Australia, but also work on different projects. There’s been no reason for me to leave because they’ve given me everything that I’ve wanted, and they’ve continued to train me, and now the opportunity to move overseas. I’m quite happy where I am.
