Can you describe this project?
This is the largest gas fired power station in Australia, currently being built. And it's one of quite a few power stations in this area.
How is safety managed on site?
Well safety is a very high priority on site, as it is on all Laing O'Rourke sites. We’re currently sitting at 350,000 man hours RTI free. We have various safety incentives in place: we have site walks and safety walks, and people are rewarded for taking safety incentives and going above and beyond their normal requirements on site.
Are there any special concerns for this project?
Being a small community and with the rates we pay on a job like this, we need to be cognisant of the fact that it's very attractive to the local industry, or the workers anyway, to want to come and work on site. But we need to be aware that once the job's finished, these guys need to go back to their industries and if we've taken all the workers away there's not going to be any industry. So we do make a point of keeping local industries informed and being conscientious about how we affect the local community.
