The South West Queensland Building Group will construct a new multi-purpose health facility at Winton, a remote western Queensland town about 920 kilometres west of Mackay.
The team was selected as Head Contractor for the $10 million contract, which was awarded primarily due to Laing O’Rourke’s reputable experience on previous operating health facilities including Miles Hospital and Weipa Integrated Health Service.
“The feedback we received indicated that the tender was won mostly on the strength of our previous health experience and proposed team which was a great feeling,” said South West Queensland Regional Manager Stirling McConnel.
The company’s remote area experience was also a key factor as carrying out works in Winton, which will present logistical challenges associated with remote location works.
The 47-week project includes the construction and design of a new multi-purpose health facility and Queensland Ambulance Service building, and the demolition of existing administration, laundry and aged care facility buildings.
Works are due to commence in October 2010.
