Laing O’Rourke has become the first and only Australian construction company to be listed on the Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI) – a leading, independent measure of responsible and sustainable business practice.
In addition, Laing O’Rourke has been awarded a Bronze Rating for its inaugural assessment under the CRI.
The Index is a global assessment tool that benchmarks corporate responsibility initiatives and commitment across businesses - helping companies communicate, track and manage their efforts and ensuring they are integrating them into daily operations.
The CRI is run in Australia through the respected think-tank, the St James Ethics Centre.
Executive Chairman Andrew Wilson said it was important to benchmark Laing O’Rourke’s sustainability agenda, EPIC, against other Australian and international businesses.
“This is the first time Laing O’Rourke has undertaken an external review of the EPIC, agenda and it’s pleasing that we’ve been immediately recognised with a bronze award under the independent, international CRI,” Andrew said.
“One of the fundamental principles of EPIC is to develop long-term, authentic sustainability practices within the organisation.
“We don’t seek awards or nominations for our efforts in this area. Rather, it is core business practice to integrate EPIC into everything we do.
”But it is important to note we are the first – and currently the only – Australian construction company that has achieved a listing on this index,” he said.
