Healthy start to NSW hospital project

The Nepean Hospital in Penrith, New South Wales is set to undergo a $50 million extension and refurbishment to cope with the increased health needs in the fast growing area, west of Sydney.

Laing O’Rourke is working with Health Infrastructure on an ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) Agreement providing construction cost and time analysis for the project.

The Nepean Hospital is a major metropolitan hospital at Kingswood, near Penrith, New South Wales.

Laing O’Rourke’s Health Sector leader Matt Reed said the contract was the first major health project for the company’s New South Wales division since Laing O’Rourke began operations in Australia in 2004.

Matt relocated from Laing O’Rourke’s UK business to lead the health sector in Australia because the company considers health to be an important area of future opportunity.

“We have the front-end hospital development and design management skills, and the knowledge gained from our UK health experience which, combined with our construction strength in Australia, gives us a real expertise in this area,” Matt said.

“We have that specialised knowledge of knowing how hospitals work and an understanding of the specific requirements of health clients, so we can deliver works with the minimum amount of disruption.”

Laing O’Rourke’s recent works in the health sector include the award-winning Weipa Integrated Health Service and the Miles Hospital upgrade, both in regional Queensland.
