Local employment forums are being held across country New South Wales for builders and businesses keen to join the “Building the Education Revolution” school infrastructure program.
The program, part of the Australian Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan, will enter the construction phase from June 30, delivering new capital works to every primary school in Australia.
Australian construction and infrastructure company Laing O’Rourke has been appointed Managing Contractor for the Riverina and Western NSW regions – and will work with local builders to deliver new facilities at 329 local primary schools.
Laing O’Rourke helped launch the Local Employment Forums last week at the NSW Community Cabinet Meeting in Bathurst, joined by the Minister for Education Verity Firth and the Member for Bathurst Gerard Martin.
“This is the largest school infrastructure program in Australian history – and Laing O’Rourke is proud to assist the Government objectives of supporting local jobs and trades, as well as providing new facilities for NSW kids,” Laing O’Rourke project director Ed Selby said.
“We are currently signing up local delivery partners who will undertake the construction work across the Riverina and the state’s west, after being inundated with expressions of interest.
“The local forums are a chance to learn more about the program, and the opportunities it provides for local businesses and tradespeople. A question and answer session will also be held.”
“If you haven’t already registered to be part of the program, there’s still time to get on board. Those contractors not involved in Round One buildings will be eligible for Rounds Two and Three,” Mr Selby said.
Upcoming forums will be held at TAFEs from 4.30pm in:
- Griffith - Wednesday 17 June
- Albury - Thursday 18 June
- Wagga Wagga - Tuesday 16 June
- Dubbo - Monday 22 June
- Orange - Tuesday 23 June
- Bourke – Tuesday 30 June
- Broken Hill – Thursday 2 July
