First trains roll through upgraded Hornsby Station

April 3 2009

The first trains have rolled through Hornsby Station’s new Platform 5, marking the end of a three and a half year construction program for this major Laing O'Rourke rail project.

Laing O'Rourke completed the Hornsby Platform 5 and Stabling Project in Sydney for the Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDC).

The New South Wales Minister for Transport David Campbell visited the new platform prior to the opening.

"This new track and new facilities will provide greater reliability for CityRail services," Mr Campbell said.

"There is also an upgraded bus interchange, which vastly improves security for passengers and will assist in their connections between the different transport modes."

Laing O'Rourke Project Manager Stewart Dunlop said the project had been a hugely challenging stakeholder and technical environment in which to work.

"The commitment to safety and rail reliability and excellent interface management has delivered one of the most successful Clearway's projects for TIDC," Stewart said.

"All of the construction team should be proud of the positive impact and legacy they have left for Hornsby and the wider Sydney commuting community."
