The 24-storey commercial office block that Laing O'Rourke is building in Brisbane's CBD has been awarded the coveted Six Star Green Star - Office Design v2 rating, the highest possible rating awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia.
The award, which recognises the project as a world leader in green building design, is a significant achievement for the 123 Albert Street project team who have worked tirelessly to create a building with true green credentials.
Laing O'Rourke Project Leader Tony Froio said 123 Albert Street was now the largest commercial building in Australia, and only one of four in Queensland, to achieve this rating.
"It is a huge honour and everyone associated with the project should be immensely proud of what they have achieved," Tony said.
"Many companies talk about their project's green credentials, but achieving this rating is the first step in solidifying Laing O'Rourke's commitment in designing and delivering a building that truly encompasses the principles of environmental sustainability."
The planning, design and coordination of the submission was led by Laing O'Rourke with Arup engaged as the environmental consultants.
Design Manager Tom Moore said the building was a combination of simple yet efficient building elements that collectively contributed to achieving the Six Star result.
Sustainability features of 123 Albert Street include CO2 reduction initiatives, water efficient technology, grey water recycling and highly efficient lighting systems.
