Industry

The Construction industry cannot cope with the demands placed on it today and all indications are that this crisis will deepen. Even five years ago it would have been difficult to contemplate a client delaying a project for some years because of a lack of capacity in the construction industry, but that day has arrived, especially for mining related projects.

By the year 2018 their will be more people leaving the Australian Construction Industry than joining it. The Australian Government is playing a part by making immigration and temporary employment visas more accessible, however the rising living standards of emerging economies throughout the world are encouraging workers in those countries to stay at home instead of travelling abroad to build our projects.

With a forecast year-on-year ramp up in the number and scale of new projects our industry is faced with an immediate issue needing radical action.

Our objective is to formulate changes to the way Laing O'Rourke operates that will reduce the impact of construction on our limited resources, namely people and materials.
